Colonia Guadalupe

One of the neighborhoods we really enjoyed exploring and return to often in San Miguel de Allende is Calonia Guadalupe. It has a completely different feel from the historic center—more relaxed, more local, and full of creativity.

As you walk through the streets, you quickly notice the murals. There are more than 50 of them spread throughout the neighborhood, each one adding its own color and personality to the area. Some are bold and modern, others more traditional, but all of them make the streets feel like an open-air gallery.

Guadalupe is home to many artists and creatives, and you can feel that energy everywhere. It’s not just about the murals—there’s a strong sense of community here, and it shows in the small details.

Part of the fun is just wandering. You’ll come across small local grocery stores, cozy restaurants, a great bakery, juice bars, and even an organic market on the weekends. It feels a bit more every day and lived-in compared to the main tourist areas, which makes it even more interesting.

As San Miguel’s designated art district—the first of its kind in this UNESCO World Heritage city—Guadalupe offers a vibrant, creative atmosphere that really sparks the imagination. It’s the kind of place where you slow down, take your time, and just enjoy what you discover along the cobblestone streets as you explore this very colorful neighborhood.
